Planting and transplanting

Planting is the process of placing a seed or a young plant into the soil to grow into a mature plant. This is mainly done when starting a garden from scratch, a new plant or flower bed, or when adding more plants to an existing garden. The best time for planting is during the spring, when the soil is warm.

Transplanting, on the other hand, is the process of moving an established plant to one location to another. One example of transplanting is when a potted plant has gotten too large for the pot and needs to be repotted or moved into the ground. It is important to consider the environment the plant is being moved to, as well as the soil type, the amount of sun and water, and the size of the plant, as a large plant may not fit in its new location. The root system and the soil around it also have to be kept intact in order to avoid damages that prevent the plant from establishing in its new environment.
