Trimming and pruning
Trimming and pruning are both intended to keep the shape, reduce the size and ensure the health of a shrub, but they are done quite differently, with the use of different tools.
Trimming: This procedure is primarily focused on aesthetics. It involves cutting back overgrown branches to keep a neat and tidy appearance, which enhances your property's curb appeal. It is also crucial for the health of your trees / shrubs, as it removes excess foliage that prevents sunlight from reaching the inner branches. Trimming is also done more frequently than pruning.
Pruning: This is more focused on the health and safety of the trees / shrubs. It involves the selective removal of branches that are dead, diseased, or damaged. Since pruning is done mainly by hand, it helps create a more natural shape on your shrubs. Pruning helps to improve a tree's structure and encourage a healthy growth, to prevent potential accidents (overhanging branches can pose a safety hazard to your home, vehicles or passersby) and protect your property.
